Furniture Program

The Furniture Program helps provide used furniture to international students and scholars who have just arrived in Madison.

What? Donated and used furniture are collected by the program and distributed to international students and visitors at Madison colleges.  Furniture is first come, first served.  It CANNOT be reserved. MFIS will try to arrange furniture delivery to international students, scholars, and families, however, this service cannot be guaranteed.

To submit your request please complete this Student Furniture Registration Form.

When? Open Houses are held the first Saturday of the month from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., except for June, July, December and January. During Open Houses the MFIS volunteers will help students on a first come-first service basis without appointments, which means no phone calls or emails – just come at the times below to 5501 University Ave.

The dates for 2019 are:
   Sunday, October 6 – 12:00 p.m.
   Saturday, November 2 – 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

But if you just arrived and are NEW to Madison AND your apartment is ready to move in AND is empty, call one of the following volunteers for quick help:

Mike vonS,  608-620-8780, mike.vons@gmail.com

Bill Niedermeier, 608-843-0410, iamnieds2@yahoo.com

Giovanna Jeffries, 608-358-4470, gmicelij@wisc.edu

and set up an appointment; so you do not need to wait for an Open House.

Where? MFIS ‘Degen’ warehouse 5133 University Ave, ~3 miles/5 km west of campus next to the MIDAS car repair shop.  Look for the large, orange ‘MIDAS’ sign and a smaller ‘Degen & Associates’ sign near by. Wait next to the gate in back by the motorcycle shop, or if open go behind the Quonset hut, a rusty half-round building.

Madison Metro Bus Route:

Weekdays: #10 to University Row stop, then walk west 100 m to MIDAS; or #70, 71, 72 to University Avenue and Tomahawk stop (but the closest street sign says Flambeau).
Weekends & holidays: #8 N Whitney Way&Univ Ave stop or Univ Ave @ Tomahawk stop, one bus per hour. Walk 100m to MIDAS.

Handling Charges depend only on how heavy and difficult the furniture are to handle, not on value or price. See the charge list below.
